Inverness Highlanders Junior Ice Hockey Club

Open to young people who want to learn and play this amazing sport. Formed in 1992, we are a welcoming and friendly junior ice hockey club, run by a committee of parents and coaches, affiliated to Scottish Ice Hockey. Find us on Facebook Inverness Highlanders Ice Hockey Club

New Starts – entry level

We run New Starts in blocks of 6 lessons for £36 held on Sunday afternoon, and children must have passed Level 4 Skate UK or equivalent before joining. Lessons are available separately through Inverness Ice Centre. Booking New Starts is essential by emailing newstartshighlander1@gmail.com. Club kit is available to borrow for a £25 refundable deposit; however there may be a waiting list so if you can source your own kit, that is going to help get your child on the ice quicker. We do sell a limited supply of starter kits. There is no waiting list if your child is interested in becoming a goaltender; however, your child would need to be a competent skater already (forwards, backwards, stops).

Children may stay in New Starts for a few weeks or months, depending on age and ability. Under 6’s are likely to stay in New Starts for a couple of seasons at least, although friendly tournaments and games are possible.

Team Training

In the 2024/25 season, we have joined forces with Moray Juniors Ice Hockey Club (Elgin) and Aviemore Avalanche to enter a combined U12 team into the Scotland-wide competitive league – Moray Highlanders.  All age training is on 4.20 – 5.35pm on Sundays. Payment is £60 per month for each child – there are concession rates available from the club. Children must also be registered with Scottish Ice Hockey when they begin to attend team training – this annual registration fee is £70/35 in 2024/25.
