The Ice Centre Board of Management has been reviewing all ice sports including curling, and in relation to curling we are introducing an Ice Rink based league which will be open to teams from all 5 Provinces.

The Board set up a Working Group which has consulted with all 5 Provinces. If you have not heard of the new Ice Rink based league through your Province this is your opportunity to enter a team.

I would stress that we are not trying to compete with the Super League, our objective is to create a sustainable league structure (10 team leagues) which will provide competitive curling for a range of abilities, encourage new curlers, and help to sustain the smaller Provinces.

The new league will be open to teams (or any combination of curlers) from all 5 Provinces and the Ice Rink will provide attractive prizes for the winners. There will also be promotion and relegation at the end of each season. We feel that the new league, with entries from all 5 Provinces, will provide an exciting opportunity to play against new teams and make new friends.

To date we have 19 definite entries, with all 5 Provinces represented, and a number of other teams are showing interest. Our aim is to reach 3 leagues of 10 teams, so there is still plenty opportunity to enter a team.

The Ice Centre Board would ask you to consider entering a team (or teams) for the new league. Again we would stress that we are encouraging curlers of all abilities, including new curlers, as we all need to make every effort to reverse the decline in the numbers curling. We will allocate teams to leagues based on their previous history, but at the end of the day promotion / relegation will sort things out over a few seasons, and the main objective is to get folk enjoying their curling.

We are in the process of planning for next season and it would be great if you could submit your interest in entering the new league to karen@inverness-ice-centre.co.uk by Monday 14 June.

Thank you for considering this and I look forward to your hearing from you,

Michael Green
(Chairman)
