Well that’s all changed. If your skates need a bit of sharpening up, bring them in to Reception and we can arrange to have them sharpened off-site. We’ll try to get them done and back to you as quickly as possible, but bear in mind that we are passing them on to Keith…

Highland Open League – 2024-25 Season
Thanks to all for contributing to another very successful season of the Highland Open Leagues. We had a total of 29 teams taking part across the three divisions and it’s testament to you all that out of 126 matches across the season, I’m only aware of one that wasn’t able to be played. We sadly lost one of our skips, Duncan Clark early in the season and I’m grateful to the players who carried on in his memory – I think it is fitting that the Killearnan team have gone on to win Division 2 and hopefully make Duncan’s family…

Ice Centre lights
You’ll all have noticed there are a couple of lights above the ice pad that haven’t been working for some time. We are as frustrated as all our users that previous plans to get this fixed have failed. As you’ll have worked out, it’s not just a case of flicking a trip switch – we need a couple of electricians, and scaffolding erected on the ice to get it done. The current plan is to have the work completed on Thursday, 15th December, when there is no ice activity taking place.

2021 Dr John Bonspiel
Ross & Cromarty Province held their annual “Dr John” Bonspiel last Friday (26 November). This bonspiel was traditionally held on a Saturday but with a reduced number of teams it was moved to Friday evening. The Bonspiel started at 6:15pm and the teams played two 6 end sessions. There was a half hour break between sessions with stovies served at the end of the curling. It was a very enjoyable evening and this format may well suit clubs or Provinces looking to run smaller Bonspiels. 2021 Dr John Bonspiel winners, BelmaduthyThe Bonspiel was won by Belmaduthy with Iain Fraser (Skip), Brenda Macintyre,…
Online booking for public skating sessions
Probably the most common question we get asked on the phone is “Can I book for the Public Skating Sessions in advance and how much does it cost?” Up till now, we’ve always had to say, “Sorry, we don’t have a booking system in place, you just need to turn up on the day and take your chances” But, no more. We now have an online booking and payment system for our Public Skating sessions up and running. Starting with the session this Sunday, December 5th, you can now book your admission tickets, skate hire and even Penguins in advance,…

Keeping Your Facilities Fit For Sport: I am fully aware everyone will be very busy with the new season preparations so I will keep this brief. Please find a link below to the hot off the press SportScotland document titled "Keeping Your Facilities Fit For Sport" . This long awaited document will hopefully give further insight into best operating practices we can adopt as we plan for the re-opening. Whilst not having had time to fully digest the document I see there is a section referenced to Good Ventiliation with a CO2 concentration of 800-1000ppm as the target reading with…

Friends of Inverness Ice Centre
We operate in an increasingly complicated environment, an environment beset by spiralling energy costs, Climate Change Levies, and increased competition. Over the last decade, we have relied on funds from Strictly Inverness to cover large operational deficits. Whilst Strictly is scheduled to return in May 2022, it would be foolhardy of the Board to base the future prosperity of the Ice Centre on one unique event. To move forward on a sound financial basis and ensure the long-term future of the Ice Centre, we need to innovate and embrace change. The new Friends of Inverness Ice Centre scheme is structured…
SIHA Announcement
As you may be aware, it was announced yesterday that Scotland will go into Level 0 as of Monday 19th July. This has implications for our sport, this time for the good. As of Monday 19th July, adult contact sport will be allowed indoors for the first time since Covid restrictions began. Due to the change in social distancing limits indoors, the capacity to have more people on the ice will also increase, to up to 50 people on a full-sized ice pad. Each ice facility will still have protocols to follow, and the wearing of face masks will still…

Curling – New Ice Rink Based League
The Ice Centre Board of Management has been reviewing all ice sports including curling, and in relation to curling we are introducing an Ice Rink based league which will be open to teams from all 5 Provinces. The Board set up a Working Group which has consulted with all 5 Provinces. If you have not heard of the new Ice Rink based league through your Province this is your opportunity to enter a team. I would stress that we are not trying to compete with the Super League, our objective is to create a sustainable league structure (10 team leagues) which will…

Preparing our Industry to be Fit For The Future
The Ice Rink Managers Association support the evolution of a high standard of governance by all National Governing Bodies as it is one of the most important factors in preparing our industry to be fit for the future. We wish to engage fully with all the National Governing Bodies of ice sports and are working to produce a Memorandum of Understanding between all ice sports NGB’s and IRMA that will best support our members. Throughout the past nine months, during the pandemic, we have worked very closely with all Ice Sport NGBs in a bid to re-open ice rinks. This…

Inverness Ice Centre getting ready for the “big day”
We are hugely relieved that yesterday’s announcement means that Scottish rinks can open within previously agreed plans and guidelines with no change for indoor sports. Keith and the staff have been doing a magnificent job making ready to reopen however this is not like any other new season. We’ve had engineers in improving the ducting for our airflow, a complete spring clean with all areas cleared ahead of Rentokil’s deep clean yesterday, setting up one way systems and sanitising stations and the list goes on. You won’t recognise the place?! We’ve attached a selection of photos just to let…

As Michael has indicated in the Chairman statement, there has been lots going on behind the scenes to prepare to re-open safely. The Directors have been working collaboratively, drawing on each other’s expertise, preparing plans and developing solutions to satisfy forever changing guidelines. These plans are now being implemented or at an advanced stage. Everything being done is designed to ultimately keep us safe and I am hugely appreciative of their support. I’d like to share with you the key measures being put in place to be ready for re-opening. Back in July, Law at Work (LAW) our Human Resource…

Some of these calls have been recorded and can be viewed from our website. To avoid confusion, to date because the guidance was continually changing, we have resisted making any formal announcements regarding our re-opening. We wished to have a greater level of clarity and…
